Information[]
The World Map in Airmech Wastelands includes many different types of missions and shops scattered around the map which in turn will be unlocked via successfully completing the campaign missions. Not counting the various seasonal locations that are only available during special Events, there are a total of 56 locations on the map that may be visited. The player may move around the map by clicking the mouse, using the arrow keys, or using the directional/sticks on a gamepad if available.
Missions[]
Missions represent the actual gameplay for Wastelands. While the individual mission details can vary quite a bit, the symbols that represent them are very specific. There are a total of 44 of these Mission locations.
- Stars - Mission Type 1 is shown with a star symbol. These are campaign missions and cannot be skipped. The mission play may vary between: tutorials normally at the start of the campaign, standard 1vs1 AirMech Strike style play involving simply destroying the enemy fortress or survival play against waves of enemy units. Details may still also vary within those missions as additional objectives may also be required, such as locating downed pilots or destroying targets of interest. When first starting, the first few missions, intended as tutorials, are solo play only, the rest allow additional players or AI Bot pilots. There are a total of 24 Star mission locations.
- Diamonds - Mission Type 2 with a Diamond symbol on them are Survival missions where the only goal is to survive against a set number of waves of enemy units. There are 11 total Diamond missions locations, plus 1 seasonal.
- AirMechs - Mission Type 3 with the AirMech symbol on them are missions intended for introducing and unlocking the various AirMech types available within the game. The first time playing these missions on each difficulty requires the player to use a specific AirMech and may reward the player with either the basic AirMech type, if they do not have them, or a cosmetic skin with enhanced stats. Subsequent plays on the completed difficulty allows the player to use any AirMech for the mission and may provide a different mission altogether from the original. These missions are solo only; they do not allow player co-op or AI Bot pilots. There are 9 total AirMech mission locations.
Shops[]
Represented as a small building on the map, shops offer several services:
- Buying new units, pilot items, building blueprints and AirMech parts.
- Purchase upgrades for AirMechs to increase their level.
- Sell any extra parts and salvage.
- Restock spent units.
- Gamble for the chance of higher grade parts than what is offered on sale.
There are a total of 9 Normal Shops that may be unlocked which sell various items and parts. The level of the parts sold are based on the difficulty level and placement. Those found later in the campaign typically offer higher level parts.
There are also a number of specialty shops that may be found throughout the year during seasonal Events. Most are typically found near the large crater on the map. These shops offer items and AirMechs not available within other shops, though they can still be purchased off-season thru the Inventory Collections screen or the VIP Shop within AirMech Strike. Off-season purchases require a VIP Shop Ticket in addition to their normal cost however.
Other locations[]
- Base Camp - Shown as a small tent building, it is a unique place where you can change your AirMech variants from your hangar, harvest your fields and upgrade your pilot skills with points awarded from completing the missions and increasing your pilot level.
- Giant Mech - A special location on the map represented by a giant Iron Hand Walker mech on the map which is essentially a boss battle. This is considered a campaign mission and cannot be skipped.
