Description[]
Chasm is an official Carbon map that is currently in the 1v1 and 2v2 matchmaking map pools. You may also select and play Chasm in custom lobbies.
"The Sevier River flowed through this region before the War, but now all that remains is a long-dead channel carved through the landscape and the strategically valuable bridges that cross over it."
Each side starts with a fortress that has 5 sockets. The closest outpost is a neutral powerstation that is occupied by 4 Soldiers, it is also defended by 2 T45's on sockets. The next outpost afterwards is a neutral factory that is occupied by 4 Brutes, it is also defended by 2 T45's on sockets. The center outpost is occupied by 4 Brutes and is defended by 2 Longhorns and 2 T99's on sockets. On each side there is a bridge, they are defended by a group of neutrals that consists of 2 T99's and 2 Longhorns.
Strategy[]
Both sides should be able to capture 2 outposts in about a minute. The powerstation can be handled with just the mech, which gives enough time to build 2-4 tanks in order to use them to help capture the factory. Afterwards, the tanks can be moved to gain control of one side of the center outpost.
When both sides control 2 outposts, a standard midfight is done for control of the center outpost. Players most often approach from their powerstation. A pair of well placed tanks with mech fire support will easily clear one side. The opposing side may choose to rush for control of the center outpost, which sometimes allows them to capture and drop units on opposing side of the center outpost while neutrals are still present. The backline outposts are often targets for harassment and cheesing in this state of the game. The midfight on Chasm is infamously long due to the terrain layout as there is no path to push armies through mid and the side bridges create dangerous choke points along a lengthy and very visible path.
Trivia[]
- Chasm has the only outpost (center) which has only 2 doors.
